Look at the time!
Have we been sitting here all night?
The check is paid, and our waiter’s at the bar,
reading want ads while he nurses his second beer.
He keeps looking over his shoulder.

I have to say,
I wasn’t planning on tonight.
I told myself we’d grab a bite, and I’d go back to my life—
which was, by the way, not so bad.
Now here you are, and I’m wondering.

This might not be the night, but
